Pasture Weed Day 2007
Pasture weed day 2007 was held at the Range Cattle Research and Education Center, Ona on October 11. Over 150 clientele including ranchers, county extension faculty, state faculty, and industry representatives attended the field day. Speakers for the field day included Dr. Brent Sellers, Dr. Raghaven Charudattan ("Charu"), Dr. Bill Overholt, Mr. Jeff Hutchison (Ph.D. student), Mr. Barton Wilder (M.S. student), Dr. Jay Ferrell, and Dr. Greg MacDonald. Each speaker spoke for approximately 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the information.
Topics for the field day included biocontrol of tropical soda apple with a bioherbicide and the soda apple beetle (Gratiana boliviana), limpograss tolerance to herbicides, control of old world and Japanese climbing fern, smutgrass control, grassy weed control in stargrass, and weed identification principles.
The three hour educational tour ended with a steak lunch catered by Perry's Cookouts at the Range Cattle REC. The steak lunch was a fantastic ending to a very good educational tour.
