Biographical Information

Susana Queiroz Santos Mello was born in Goiânia - GO, Brazil, the youngest daughter of Francisco Mello and Maria da Conceição Queiroz Santos Mello, and sister of Samara Queiroz Santos Mello and Surama Queiroz Santos Mello. In 1990 she joined the Professional Education of Agricultural Technical Level by the Forest Education and Development Center (CEDAF) - Campus Florestal, MG, Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). The course is aimed at training professionals working in agricultural and animal science activities. This was completed in 1992.

The following year, she was admitted to the undergraduate program in the Animal Science by the Higher Education Foundation of Rio Verde - GO (FESURV), which she concluded in 1997. In 1999, Susana was admitted to the Master program in Animal Science by the Faculty of Engineering of Ilha Solteira – SP, in the Sao Paulo State University "Julio de Mesquita Filho"-FE/UNESP. There her studies related to the characterization of tropical forage plants (Panicum maximum).

Susana completed her PhD in Animal Science at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) in Goiânia - GO, from 2003 - 2007. The focus of her research was the evaluation of chemical and biological properties in soil-plant systems of pastures fertilized with different amounts of nitrogen.

In January 2009, she assumed the position of professor at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT), teaching Plant Physiology and Ecology in the areas of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine. Currently, Susana is an Associate Professor in Animal Science, in the subarea of production and characterization of forage plants, specializing in physiology of forage plants, and the evaluation of alternative feeds for ruminants. Most recently she has also been developing research with agroecological alternatives in forage crops.

In February 2017 she was released by UFT to begin a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Florida - UF / IFAS Range Cattle Research and Education Center in Ona - FL, under the guidance of Dr. Maria Lúcia Silveira. Susana will complete her postdoctoral program in February 2018.
