Neha Rana was born on 30th October, 1983 to Mr. Harish Chander Rana and Mrs. Neelam Rana. The younger of two children, she comes from the state of Himachal Pradesh, a captivating region of the Indian Himalayas. Her father, a graduate in agriculture science, works with State Bank of India as a chief manager. Her mother is a housewife who takes care of the fruit and vegetable plantations on their ancestral land. Her elder brother, Capt. Ashish Rana, serves in the Indian military.
Neha was inclined towards the field of plant biology after finishing her high school. So, she started her undergraduate degree program in Botany Honors in Panjab University, Chandigarh in 2002. She was awarded her undergraduate degree in 2005 and the same year she started working on her master's degree. She was introduced to the field of weed biology during her master's coursework.
After graduating in 2007 she became involved in many different things. She acheived a diploma in forensic science and criminology, did a job in IMTECH (Institute of Microbial technology) India, and in order to know more about weed science she worked voluntarily in the ecophysiology lab of Dr. Daizy Batish who inspired her to gain knowledge of all the fundamental and applied/practical aspects of this challenging field.
In the end of 2007, she contacted Dr. Brent Sellers to work on her Ph. D. under his supervision. He gave her the opportunity, and she began her Ph. D. in the fall 2008 at the University of Florida, Agronomy Department as well as the Range Cattle Research and Education Center under the mentorship of Dr. Brent Sellers.
