Odislei Fagner Ribeiro Cunha
Odislei Fagner Ribeiro Cunha was born in São Francisco, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on August 11, 1981. He is son of José Rodrigues Cunha e Neuza Maria Ribeiro Cunha, rural producers. He is married to Lidiane Cunha, DVM, and has a 3 years old son named Felipe Cunha.
Odislei graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from the “Federal Univeristy of Tocantins” (UFT), Brazil in 2006. The UFT was inaugurated in 2000, with approximatly 11.000 students on seven campus on different regions around the state. Eventhough UFT is a new university is already featured in the region by presenting young and qualified staff and also with studies that seek for solutions to improve the “Amazon” biome. With that context UFT started the first Animal Science graduate program in the north region of Brazil, which Odislei Cunha is a student.
After completed his undergraduate program Odislei wroked as a ranch consultant on beef cattle nutrition from 2006 to 2008 in Tocantis and Pará state. During that period he finished a specialization program on Dairy Cattle Production System. Ib 2008 he started his master program under the guidance of Dr. José Neuman Miranda Neiva, finishing in 2010. Still in 2010 began his doctorates’s program in Tropical Animal Sciences advised by Drª Vera Lucia Araújo. His reseach focus is beef cattle production under differents supplementation strategies on pastures and finishing animals on feedlot.
Odislei Cunha was granted with an assistanship from a Brazilian government program ( Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education - CAPES) named “Science without Borders” and started his program at RCREC - Ona, FL on March 2013 under the guidance of Dr. Vendramini and Dr. Arthington. During his time at the research station he worked with forage evaluation and management, supplementation under grazing system, and in situ trial. During that time he was able to improve his knowledge and create a strong academic relationship with the University of Florida, RCREC, Ona.
